Course Description

This course will focus on dysfunctions involving the neurological and musculoskeletal systems experienced by the older adult.  Common causes of neurological and musculoskeletal dysfunction encountered by the older adult will be examined including stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, vestibular disorders, ALS, osteoporosis, and osteoarthritis, including joint replacement.  Diagnostic tests, physical therapy examination and appropriate physical therapy intervention will be covered.  Students will be expected to integrate knowledge of the normal and abnormal aging process (covered in Maturity I) for each of the major dysfunctions covered in this course and will be required to demonstrate the ability to apply concepts learned in pathology to clinical scenarios.
