Description

To be effective, educational leaders in the 21st century must understand educational policy and the processes by which it is developed, implemented, and assessed. They must have the ability to use power responsibly to advocate for students, families, and schools and to raise their voices on educational issues. This course is a critical inquiry into the policy making process of policies that affect educational institutions, schools and organizations. Candidates will examine policy analysis, conflict theory, political theories, political structures, practical politics, and policy environments at the federal, state, and local levels. The course explores the impact of economics, demographics, political culture, values and ideology. This course will provide knowledge that can empower educational leaders in becoming proactive and influencing policy making in responsible ways.
