Description

This course encompasses the study of research design and methods used in speech-language pathology and audiology. The critical analysis of research and professional and scientific writing will be emphasized. The course will include development of a proposal for a research project. This proposal will be done as a group project for the class to use as a basis for generating an application for the Institutional Review Board (IRB). In addition, students will complete the on-line course offered by the NIH in the Protection of Human Subjects in research. Research to be addressed includes the developmental processes, speech and language acquisition and disabilities, multicultural issues, diagnostic and intervention strategies in clinical and school environments, instructional and assistive technology, validation of instructional strategies and program evaluation. A scheduled series of labs will instruct students in the application of statistics in communication research analysis.
